On October 18th, the newest ship LCS Freedom was launched at the American Marinette Marine Corporation. This is yet another LCS, manufactured by Lockheed Martin. These are relatively cheap and fast vessels designed for operating on shallow coastal waters.
LCS (littoral combat ships) are designed to operate in the so- Litoral zone at speeds above 40 knots. Depending on the mission accomplished, it is possible to exchange up to 40% of the ship’s equipment. With special combat modules, the ship can perform both minefield missions, anti-surface missions, and combat surface units.
A few days before launching and official ceremony, Lockheed Martin released a brief video showing the main facts about the ship as well as the maneuvering process itself, which weighed 3,000 tons on the waterfront.
